Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about ADT Security

ADT's professional monitoring means your security system is connected 24/7 to one of their monitoring centers. When an alarm is triggered (e.g., from a door sensor, motion detector, or smoke detector), a signal is immediately sent to the monitoring center. Trained professionals at these centers then assess the situation. They will often attempt to contact you via a two-way voice feature or phone to verify the emergency. If they can't reach you or if an emergency is confirmed, they will promptly dispatch the appropriate emergency services (police, fire department, or medical responders) to your location. This professional monitoring provides peace of mind, knowing that help is always just a signal away, even when you're not home.

Generally, no. ADT security systems are designed to work in conjunction with their 24/7 professional monitoring service. While you might be able to use some system components (like cameras) for local viewing, the core functionality of detecting threats and dispatching emergency services relies on the active monitoring contract. ADT's monitoring centers are crucial for ensuring that alarms are responded to swiftly and appropriately.

To cancel your ADT service, you typically need to call ADT's customer service directly. You cannot cancel online or via email. It's helpful to have your contract readily available, as cancellation terms and potential fees depend on your specific contract. If you're still within your contract term (often 36 months for satellite service), you may be subject to an early termination fee, which can be up to 75% of your remaining monthly charges. However, ADT does offer a money-back service guarantee within the first six months if they are unable to resolve a system-related issue. After your contract ends, it usually renews on a month-to-month basis, and there are no termination fees if you cancel a monthly contract. You will also likely need to return certain ADT equipment to avoid non-return fees.

How Weather Affects Solar Panel Performance:

Cloudy Days

  • Solar panels can still generate 10–30% of their normal output under heavy clouds.
  • Diffuse sunlight still reaches the panels, even when the sun isn't visible.
  • Output depends on cloud thickness and type.

🌧️ Rainy Days

  • Rain clouds limit sunlight, so panels produce less power.
  • However, rain actually helps by cleaning dust and debris off your panels, improving long-term performance.

❄️ Bonus – Cold Weather

  • Solar panels are more efficient in cooler temperatures—as long as sunlight is available, they often perform better than in extreme heat.
